Friendship

I have the privilege and honor of raising a daughter. This is not something I thought I would ever be doing. Being a mother was the farthest thing from my mind. If genes had anything to do with being a good parent, I inherited bad genes.  If there was a chance I could have those bad genes, I knew I did not want children and this was my prayer for many years.

We are just getting into the "my best friend" phase. So, I am trying to teach my daughter that you can have more than one friend.  We also discussed the fact that just because you are friends with someone does not mean you can't have other friends. In fact, we all have different tastes and styles. So, one friend may like something you like and the other doesn't.

The conversation took place because my daughter's friend was at our Hallowed festival and another little girl she plays with came up and they ran off. My daughter was crushed. I didn't know what to do. My heart absolutely broke into a million pieces and I am still suffering for her.

If I am a friend of Jesus, how can I explain to my daughter that she is going to have those days and that she will overcome. She is 5.  She has so far to go. I am so new at this and can only pray that God will lead and help me with parenting both my children.

Webster says a friend is one who holds another in high esteem, respect, and affection; a friend is one whose happiness and prosperity you desire to promote. Jesus says, "Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you."  John 15:14

Be near me, Lord Jesus

Be near me, Lord Jesus!
I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever
And love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children
In Thy tender care
And take us to heaven
To live with Thee there.

Amen.
